Georgia Library Service (GLS) provides a free library service for braille and talking books in Atlanta, Georgia integrating an effective public library management system for specially abled individuals. This service is tailored for individuals who are blind or have print disabilities. Users can access an extensive selection of books and magazines offered in multiple accessible formats such as audio, braille, and other modified mediums. The goal of GLS is to improve literacy and encourage independent reading by removing barriers that physical limitations may impose on accessing literary materials.

Defining: Public Library Management

AppZoro addressed several significant challenges faced by the Georgia Library Service (GLS) through the creation of a mobile application designed to improve accessibility for individuals with visual impairments and print disabilities. A primary challenge was the dependence on outdated methods for accessing library resources, which often required physical media and resulted in lengthy wait times. GLS incorporated advanced public library software to overcome these barriers and modernize its services. Moreover, GLS encountered difficulties in reaching underserved communities. The software facilitated outreach by offering an intuitive platform that increased awareness of available services. Features such as personalized recommendations and remote programming opportunities also promoted community engagement, thereby transforming GLS's service delivery into a more efficient and user-friendly experience.

Plan & Solutions for Public Library Software

AppZoro stepped in to help Georgia Library Service (GLS) by building a mobile app for users with visual impairments and print disabilities. They saw that people needed a better way to access library resources. The team designed an easy-to-use public library management software for browsing and downloading audiobooks and braille materials. Users could search for titles based on what they liked or needed, thanks to strong search features. They also added support chat and tutorials, making it easier for patrons to use the app effectively. This thoughtful approach tackled accessibility challenges and gave GLS a modern platform that connected with the community's needs, improving the overall experience for everyone involved.

Key Challenges

The AppZoro project encountered several significant challenges: - **User Testing and Feedback**: Extensive testing was necessary to ensure that the application catered to the diverse requirements of users with varying degrees of visual impairment - **Integration with Existing Systems**: Technical difficulties arose when attempting to synchronize the new application with the current catalog and Georgia Library Service (GLS) database. - **Accessibility Compliance**: It was essential to comply with accessibility standards, such as the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), to guarantee usability for all library patrons. - **Training Staff**: Sufficient training programs were needed for GLS staff to effectively assist users in navigating the updated public library management system. - **Ongoing Maintenance**: A long-term support and updates plan was required to respond to user feedback and keep pace with technological advancements.

Project Strategy

Since the application is related to the transportation of prisoners, ensuring utmost security was our key concern.

Phase 1 (Discovery and Planning)

The project began with an assessment of what Georgia Library Services (GLS) already had in place, focusing on how public library software could enhance their system. We talked to stakeholders to understand what users needed. From there, we mapped out a clear plan. This plan included key performance indicators, timelines, how we would use our resources, and the risks we might face. All of this connected back to GLS's goal of being accessible.

Phase 2 (Design and Prototyping)

Next, we moved into design. We created wireframes and UI mockups to get feedback from users. We laid out the technical architecture too, picking technologies that would allow for growth and security. A data flow diagram helped us see how different parts of the system would interact.

Phase 3 (Development)

In development, we broke things down into three main areas. First was frontend work using React to make it user-friendly. Then came the backend built on Node.js for strong processing power. Finally, we used MongoDB for safe database management. This combination ensured we delivered functional, responsive, and secure public library software—just what GLS patrons needed.
