Mission Overview
Open on Sunday's mission is to empower entertainment IP asset owners with a quick, simple and secure platform for turning artistic work into personal currency. By pairing user-friendly interfaces with robust backend functions, the platform aims to simplify monetization and help artists and creators access the value of their assets promptly and efficiently, supporting both their creative work and their financial stability.
The Call for Change
In the entertainment industry, many IP asset owners struggle to find efficient ways to monetize their work. Traditional methods often involve complex processes and lengthy timeframes, making it difficult for artists and creators to access funds when they need them. The goal was an online platform that gives users a straightforward, secure way to convert artistic work into cash, without unnecessary delays.
-
We listened before we specified
Two weeks of calls with counsellors and program graduates came before a single screen was drawn. The feature list we arrived at was shorter than the one we were handed, and everything left on it had someone who could say why it mattered.
-
One screen the app opens to
Everything a client needs on a bad day sits on the first screen: today's check-in, the next meeting, and the call button. Nothing that could wait was allowed to compete with those three for attention.
-
Offline is the normal case
Meetings happen in church basements with no signal, so the app was built assuming there is no network rather than treating that as an error state. Check-ins queue on the device and sync when the phone finds a connection.
-
Built for the counsellor too
The staff side got the same attention as the client side. A counsellor can see who has checked in this week without exporting anything, which is the only reason the data has stayed current a year after launch.
Challenges Encountered
-
User Data Management
- Capturing, organizing and managing customer data effectively was a primary challenge, as it underpins every transaction on the platform.
-
Third-Party Integration
- Connecting to third-party service providers for transaction processing required careful planning to keep the link smooth and secure.
-
User Experience
- The interface needed to be intuitive and easy to navigate so users could complete transactions without friction.
-
Security
- Protecting user data and securing transactions were paramount concerns throughout the development process.
Client Requirements
Open on Sunday needed a secure, easy-to-use web platform that lets entertainment IP asset owners turn their artistic work into cash. Their key requirements were:
-
User Data Management
A system to capture, organize and manage customer data, so users can provide the critical information needed to complete transactions.
-
Transaction Initiation & Third-Party Integration
A straightforward way for users to start transactions, with a secure link to third-party service providers for processing.
-
Security, Compliance & Usability
Protection of user data in line with regulatory compliance and data security standards, delivered through a clean, intuitive interface.
Project Strategy
Open on Sunday followed a structured, five-phase approach, from first requirements through to launch.
-
Requirements Phase
The project began with detailed requirements gathering. Founder Elliot Hayes shared a clear vision, and meetings with the AppZoro team defined the needs around user data management, transaction initiation and third-party integration. Research into regulatory compliance and data security standards rounded out the phase.
-
Design Phase
The design team created a clean, intuitive interface for easy data entry and transaction initiation, with a modern, professional look suited to entertainment IP asset owners. Data capture, transaction initiation and third-party service integration were designed and prototyped.
-
Development Phase
AppZoro built the platform on a robust backend to support user data management and transaction processing, with secure, scalable infrastructure for high volumes of data and transactions. Key features, including user registration, data capture and third-party integration, were developed and tested.
-
Testing Phase
Functionality testing confirmed that features worked as intended, while user experience testing with beta testers helped refine the interface. Security testing checked the protection of user data and compliance with privacy regulations
